Nathaniel Skokan, 22, was aboard Royal Caribbean Cruise Line's Independence of the Seas on December 22, 2016, when he reportedly jumped overboard from the 12th deck around 2:00 in the morning, while the cruise ship was returning from a 4-night Caribbean cruise which departed from Port Everglades, Florida.

Skokan went to Westside High School from 2009 to 2013. He was attending the University of Nebraska – Lincoln where he was pursuing his Bachelor of Science in Marketing. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.

His family says, "Nate was a vivacious character from the beginning until the end of his much too short life. He loved to be surrounded by people and was always trying to lighten the mood with his crazy sense of humor and antics."

This may indicate Nate fell from the cruise ship while pulling an "antic" on deck 12, not a willful act of suicide.

A social media profile says, "I would summarize myself as an energetic young man with high goals and aspirations for my future and a passion for computers.".
