Denisa Markoska, 23, a cruise ship crew member from Skopje, the capital of the Republic of Macedonia, was aboard the Russian cruise ship MS Serenissima Cruises' MS Serenissima on Friday, September 12, 2014, while the cruise ship was sailing on the route linking Karpathos, north-east of Crete, on the way from Rhodos to Agios Nicholaos near Mirabello Bay.

Kire Markoski, Denisa Markoski The ship's captain called me two days ago to tell me that my daughter disappeared."

Mr. Markoski further stated, "She was seen last by one of her colleagues on the back part of the ship, smoking on the deck around 3:00 p.m. She supposed to start her shift at 5:30 p.m.but by than no one had seen her, and the phone was found on the deck of the ship. She is working on this boat for two years now; it's the same ship her brother was working on so she followed his steps. She knew them all, it was safe so it is strange that this that happened to my daughter. She had a boyfriend like all young people and she was happy and cheerful girl. She exchanged messages with her mother for her birthday on September 7 on Facebook and she told us than she had signed a contract to continue to work on the same ship. She was happy and she told her mother that she will come home in 2015", her father told newspapers.

Crete police searched with three jet boats and one helicopter for several days for the missing cruise ship crew member.

Serenissima Cruises' MS Serenissima is a small cruise ship which is 87 meter long, carries 110 passengers in 59 cabins with a crew of 48 , mostly to northern Europe destinations.

In October 2014, Denisa Markoska's body was found near Karpathos Island. An autopsy performed on the body confirmed it belonged to Denisa Markoska. Her family has requested a second autopsy.

The Institute of Forensic Medicine in Skopje began the second autopsy on November 9. On November 17, 2014, the second autopsy results were received by the Macedonian Ministry of Health. The Macedonian Ministry of Health is leaving the publication of those result to her family.
