Tuesday, November 3, 2015, Scarlett LaVite, 51, from Florida who was a Gulf Coast High, Naples, Florida drama teacher on a Caribbean Cruise, passed away suddenly. LaVite was a passenger aboard Carnival Cruise Lines' Carnival Pride at Grand Turk in the Turks and Caicos Islands when she suddenly died at the first port-of-call while snorkeling.

LaVite spearheaded the theater and television production programs at Gulf Coast High, where she had been employed since 2004. Previously, she also served as a cheerleading coach.

In a statement, Carnival Cruise Lines said LaVite died Tuesday during a snorkeling excursion in Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos. The cause of death has not been released.

Carnival Pride embarked from Baltimore, Maryland on Halloween evening, October 31, 2015 for a 7 Day Eastern Caribbean cruise. Carnival Pride called first at Grand Turk before continuing on to Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas on November 4 and finally at Nassau on November 5, before retuning to Baltimore, Maryland.

LaVite was the first of three passengers to die on a Halloween cruise in 2015. The first was Bernardo Garcia Elbaz, a filmmaker who filmed his own overboard death on November 6, 2015. Rosanna Rossato, jumped overboard of the coast of Europe on November 7, 2015 and left a suicide note at home before she embarked.

Scarlett LaVite is the second school teacher to die at sea this year. Darryl Butler, 34, Teacher Of The Year, in Little Elm, Texas, died aboard Navigator of the Seas in Honduras on July 9, 2015.
