Tobias Brekke, 59, a Registered Nurse from San Luis Obispo, California went overboard from Papagallo II on a dinner cruise in Morro Bay, California about 8:15 pm on Friday, September 4, 2015. The dinner cruise had about 22 passengers aboard, when passengers on deck heard a splash sound coming from the stern of the dinner cruise boat.
The fire department and Morro Bay police arrived. Brekke was pulled from the water by a fellow passenger, who jumped in after him and found him floating face down in the bay. Brekke was taken by ambulance to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo, where he was listed in critical condition on Friday night. Tobias reportedly died on Sunday, September 6, 2015
RN Brekke began his nursing career with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation on September. 20, 2013.
Morro Bay Police Commander Bryan Millard has said investigators are treating the incident as a suspicious death. Police detectives are working with the county coroner's office on the death investigation.
The 72-foot Papagallo II dinner cruise boat Boat owners Leonard and Midge Gentieu said in a statement, "We are deeply saddened by the passing of one of the guests onboard the Papagallo II over the weekend. On behalf of ourselves and the crew of the Papagallo II we extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends. We respect the family's need for privacy and time to heal during this time of sorrow and are praying for their well-being."
