Richard Atkins, 69, from Georgetown, Texas was a passenger aboard Norwegian Cruise Line’s, Norwegian Dream when he died.
Norwegian Dream was inbound at the Houston Ship Channel enroute the Barours Cut Cruise Ship terminal. Around 0545 Richard Atkins collapsed in his cabin and died.
Richard Atkins had a history of Cardio Pulmonary Disease and suffered from recent respiratory infection prior to sailing on the cruise.
During the two days prior to his death the ship reported Atkins suffered from shortness of breath and was treated by the ships medical center.
The medical examiner’s preliminary determination was cardiac arrest from natural causes, final detrmination was congestive heart failure.
The Harris County Medical Examiners Officer reported the official cause of death as natural causes, specifically congestive heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
He was married to Lola Marette Atkins on June 12, 1936 at Gaston Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Lola passed away on March 8, 2011.
