Two Cruise Ship Passengers Dead, – Norovirus, Celebrity Summit Passenger, October 31, 2007, Time of Death 7:15.
Two passengers were dead onboard the Celebrity Summit when it arrived in Honolulu, Hawaii Today.
A third passenger was transported from Summit to The Queen’s Medical Center for treatment.
Initial reports say the dead passengers ages were a woman who was 40 and a man who was 83.
The ship docked at Pier 10 at Aloha Tower. It was suppose to remain in port all day, leaving around 11pm.
Summit departs San Diego, California for a 14-night cruises that go to Hawaii with multiple ports of call and the returns back to San Diego.
Summit leaves San Diego at around 5pm then heads out to sea, arriving on day 6 at Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii. It is then suppose to leave Lahaina at 11pm cruising to Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii, then onto Hilo, Hawaii.
The ship then continues onto Mount Kilauea, finishing up at Kailua Kona, Hawaii before turning around and heading back to North America with 4 days at sea, where she arrives in Ensenada, Mexico before returning to San Diego.
Summit made an unscheduled stop at Honolulu Harbor at 7:15am to unload the passengers. The cruise ship was on its was to Hilo when it was diverted to Honolulu because of the emergency.
The cruise is still underway.
The last major outbreak of Norovirus on Celebrity cruises was a year ago when the Constellation was plagued with the epidemic on two consecutive cruises. Before that Infinity and Mercury were afflicted in the summer of 2006 and Mercury had Norovirus in the spring of 2006.
Mercury was disembarking San Diego for Mexico. The cruise line has been clear of the plague in 2007.
Cabins on this cruise are priced at about $3,000 to $22,000 per couple.
