While returning to the home port on September 2, 20029, at the end of a voyage to the Bahamas, a man in his 30s went overboard off the Carnival Sensation.

Carnival Sensation was on the last night of a four-night cruise to the Bahamas, when witnesses say the man went over the railing from his cabin balcony, plunging into the Atlantic Ocean around 2330 hours on the night of September 2, 2009.

The incident took place about 28 miles east of St. Lucie, Florida with the United States Coast Guard (USCG) being called for assistance to help search for the man. Carnival Sensation was turned around and began to search for missing passenger.

As the USCG were arriving to the area, another cruise ship, the Disney Wonder also began to search for the missing man. Disney Wonder was the way to Cape Canaveral, returning from a cruise to the Bahamas as well.

About 0015 hours on Thursday, September 3, the man was heard screaming in the water. The crew of the Disney Wonder called for all passengers to be quiet as they put a rescue boat in the water to look for the man.

Reports say the man was located about an hour after entering the water, was pulled aboard Disney Wonder then transferred back to Carnival Sensation.

Disney Wonder left Cape Canaveral on Sunday, August 30 with stops at Nassau in the Bahamas and Castaway Cay. She was due back in port at 0735 hours on September 3.

Carnival Sensation left Cape Canaveral about the same time as Disney Wonder, with stops at Freeport and Nassau in the Bahamas and was due back at Cape Canaveral around 0700 hours on September 3.
