James (Jim) Patrick O’dwyer, 61, from Kansas City, Missouri was a passenger aboard Carnival Cruise Lines’ Carnival Inspiration on February 27, 2010 when he went into distress and was taken from the ship for further treatment. He passed away prior to reaching shore for further medical treatment.

Carnival Inspiration had been on a 5-night Caribbean cruise, having embarked from Tampa, Florida on Monday, February 22, 2010. The ship called at Georgetown in Grand Cayman and Cozumel, Mexico before returning back to Tampa.

Inspiration arrived back in Tampa around 0800 hours, where Odwyer was to be disembarked for medical treatment.

Reports say O’dwyer had a history of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Congestive Heart Failure, Progressive Respiratory Distress, Diabetes, and Furosemide, with Continuous Positive Airway Pressure machine use had difficulties breathing on a cruise ship.
