A Canadian couple from Richmond Hill, Ontario Canada were involved in a fatal vehicle accident on April 16, 2010. Frederick Thomas (Tom) Norman, 41, was killed and his wife Christine Norman, 37, was injured when an ATV they had rented in Aruba was struck head-on by a pickup truck that police say crossed into the on-coming lane striking the Four Wheeler ATV.
Reports at the scene say that the truck contained unspecified illegal drugs.
The couple had rented the ATV in the port city of Oranjestad, where cruise ships call.
The couple had been on a seven-day cruise aboard the Caribbean Princess before touring the port.
Media reports widely reported Frederick Norman as Frederich. That information is quoted as coming from Princess Cruises’ Public Relations spokeswoman Julie Benson.
The accident took place on the main road that runs from the cruise ship dock to the resorts found in the northern part of the island.
Christine Norman was airlifted from the hospital in Aruba and transporter to , where London Health Sciences Centre in London, Ontario, Canada, near her home.
Reports say that Frederick was not wearing a helmet when the head-on collision took place.
The local man who was driving the truck is said to be 29-years-old. He was arrested at the scene.
The Canadian couple had boarded the Caribbean Princess at St. Thomas, in the US Virgin Islands on Monday, April 12 with stops at Roseau in Dominica, St. Georges in Grenada, West Indies and Bonaire in Netherlands Antilles. They never made it to the final stop of San Juan in Puerto Rico.
Norman leaves behind three children ages, 6, 4 and 2 and his wife. A trust fund for ‘Tom’ and Christine’s sons has been set up and donations will be gratefully received at TD Canada Trust, Account No., 6371107-02. Donations can be made by cash deposit or checks can be received in the names of Tracy, Kelley or Sally Norman.
