Mickaël Blemand, 25, from Sarcelles, France died aboard Carnival Corp’s, Costa Cruises’ Costa Concordia when the cruise ship grounded off the coast of Giglio, Italy on Friday the 13, January 13, 2012.

Mickaël Blemand was on the cruise with his girlfriend, Mylène Litzler. They were celebrating her birthday. They were together alive at 23:15 hours, the last anyone knew the where abouts of the pair. Lizler’s father received a text message telling him the pair were evacuating. Initially, the couple were reported as survivors, but haven’t been seen since they put on their lifevests.

The captain of Concordia (Francesco Schettino) took the cruise ship too close to shore, it grounded on a reef, ripping a massive hole in the hull of the ship, leaving a huge rock embedded in the hull. Lower compartments began to flood, causing the ship to list severely.
