Hermansen and Bruce Nierenberg were former executives of Norwegian Caribbean Line (now Norwegian Cruise Line) and started Premier Cruise Lines in the mid-1980s. The two partnered with Walt Disney Co. and Greyhound Bus Co for cruises from Port Canaveral to the Bahamas.

They sold the company to Greyhound and Hermansen retired for a short time. “You can’t sleep on your dock. You’ve got to be active.”, he said. He later launched several successful business ventures in Brevard with partners. Hermansen has developed hotels in Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral, as well as office buildings in the Brevard County.

In 1984, their Star Ship Royale became the first multi-day cruise ship based at Port Canaveral. Hermansen founded Cape Canaveral Cruise Line in 1995.

March 7, 2008, Bjornar Hermansen was inducted into Junior Achievement’s 2008 Business Hall of Fame at the Radisson Resort at the Port in Cape Canaveral. Hermansen, originally from Norway, was a pioneer in the international cruise industry, first in Europe and then in the United States. He started in the tourist and travel business in the early 1970s.
