Austin “Stingray” Ray, Cruise Ship Passenger Death, Died Aboard Disney Wonder on Alaska Cruise May 31, 2016, Time of Death Midnight.
Austin “Stingray” Ray, 17, from Pevely , Missouri was on a cruise with his parents Kevin and Kim Ray to Alaska aboard Disney Cruise Line, Disney Wonder on Tuesday, May 31, 2016, when he suddenly stopped breathing.
Ray had been recently declared in Stage 4 kidney failure, though his family is unsure of the exact cause of his death.
His mother Kim said, “Austin got up at midnight to get his medicine, and he was breathing kind of funny. My husband helped him to the bathroom, and he came out and laid down on the bed by me and just stopped breathing.”
Kim Ray aded, “They moved him down to the medical office and worked on him a long time before they came out and told us he was gone.”
Ray, was born with a rare genetic metabolic condition which causes damage to the kidneys, liver, muscles, eyes and central nervous system. He was an honor student at Herculaneum High High School, where he played several sports and was hoping to pursue a career as a paramedic.
Disney Wonder departed Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on Monday May 23 with calls at Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan before returning to Vancouver.
