Pierluigi “Gigi” Lanaro, 64, born on March 17, 1953, in Camogli, Italy, passed away July 2, 2017. He resided in Rancho Cucamonga, California at the time of his passing.
Captain Pierluigi Lanaro had a long and illustrious career at Carnival, spanning over 35 years. Lanaro started as a Deck Cadet back in 1976 before working his way up to the master’s chair.
One passenger remembered Captain Lanaro, “My husband Pietro and I both worked with “Gigi” on the Carnivale and Mardi Gras. He was Staff Captain when Pietro had his head injury on the ship in 1990. He called me with news of Pietro’s accident. He was very kind and sweet during the conversation.”
Another passenger remembered Captain Lanaro, “Gigi will be dearly missed. We had the pleasure joining him and Irma when he brought back his ship, Inspiration, from Florida through the Panama Canal to Los Angeles. We were up on the bridge all the time and it was so wonderful seeing Gigi in action. We will never forget that wonderful journey and the precious time we were able to spend with him and Irma on that cruise.”
Funeral arrangement were made with the the rather rare requested note, “No Children To Attend Service”.
