Attorney Guy Richard Strafer, 66, from Miami, Florida, departed June 2, 2017 on a Viking River Cruises aboard Viking Sky for a 13-night cruise from Stockholm, Sweden to Bergen, Norway with his husband Jonathan Rick.
By the time Stafer got to Greenwich, England he had been ill for half of the cruise with an unknown serious lung infection and was medically disembarked to a Greenwich, England hospital.
Strafer spoke with fellow attorney Kornspan after he was transferred from the Viking Sky cruise ship to the hospital. Strafer allegedly told Kornspan that he was told in the hospital’s ICU, that if he had arrived three hours later he would have died. As his condition worsened, with an 104-degree fever and pneumonia, he slipped into a coma.
Strafer was flown by medical ambulance to from England to Miami Florida Baptist Hospital where was he kept on life support until Sunday July 2, 2017 when his family ended life support per his living will.

Strafer attended Northeastern University School of Law in 1980 and received his Master of Laws (Appellate Practice) from Georgetown University Law Center in 1983. Before moving to Miami, in mid 1983. Strafer had been a member of the Florida Bar for 33 years, having been admitted to the bar on April 2, 1984.
It is expected that a wrongful death lawsuit will be filed against the cruise line in this case. Please check back for updates.
