Stephanie Horwood, 42, from Gatineau, Quebec, Canada was a cruise ship passenger who arrived in the Caribbean Sea Riviera Maya cruise port of Costa Maya, Mexico. She boarded an excursion bus with her partner, children and with dozens of other passengers for a trip to Chacchoben Ruins, located approximately 110 mi (177 km) south of Tulum.
Horwood was on the cruise with her partner, Fred Reinthaler, and two daughters, 9 and 11. She was killed in the bus rollover accident on a narrow country road around 0900 hours on Tuesday, December 19, 2017. Horwood’s family members suffered only minor injuries, but Reinthaler has since developed a fever and is being monitored in a Mexican hospital.
Her daughters are being looked after by an employee of the Canadian Embassy in Mexico, at the same hospital where their father is being treated.
Horwood was a creative soul who was full of positivity. She wrote poetry and children’s books that encouraged kids not to bully.
