Bernard Michael Walters Cruise Ship Passenger Death – On June 14, 2018, Bernard Michael Walters, 83, from Burlington Place, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England was on a Mediterranean cruise aboard Fred Olsen Cruise Lines ship Boudicca with his wife June Walters. The cruise ship was at sea between Italy and Spain.
Walters got up in the night to use the toilet and the seas were rough. He slipped and hit his head causing an immediate nosebleed. He later deteriorated and was airlifted to Hospital Trueta in Girona, Spain for treatment at 4:02 pm the same day.
The cause of Mr Walters’s death was respiratory insufficiency caused by intracerebral hypertension due to intracerebral haemorrhage.
Coroner for Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, John Ellery, recorded a conclusion of accidental death.
