Jack Daniel Ackroyd Crew Adventure of the Seas Overboard – On Thanksgiving day, Thursday, November 22, 2018, at 0411 hours, Jack Daniel Ackroyd, 26, from Lochgoilhead, United Kingdom, who was a crew member sports staff aboard Royal Caribbean Cruise Line’s ship Adventure of the Seas when he went overboard from Deck 4.
Ackroyd worked as crew sports staff for the FlowRider surf simulator.
Ackroyd was reported missing after he didn’t appear at work (after berthing in Cozumel). The crew conducted a shipwide search but were unable to locate him. CCTV footage showed him Deck 4 at 0411 hours on November 22.
The incident occurred during 6-day Western Caribbean roundtrip cruise from Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale), Florida to Grand Cayman Island and Mexico (Costa Maya, Cozumel).
The Coast Guard actively searched for Ackroyd. The search was taking place 37 miles east of Hillsboro Inlet in Pompano Beach, Florida.
The Mexican coast guards, who were in charge of the search for Ackroyd, stopped after 96 hours, according to his family.
Jack was a big Nottingham Forest soccer club fan and a keen sports player. He had a great sense of humor and would light up a room when he walked in. He was kind-hearted and loved by everyone.”
A spokeswoman for Royal Caribbean International said: “We are saddened to report that after a review of the ship’s closed-circuit camera footage, he was observed entering an area on Deck 4 at approximately 4:11 a.m. and was not seen again.”
