Jacqueline Abad Passenger Port Death MSC Meraviglia Belize – On Wednesday, November 27, 2019, at around 4:00 PM local time, Jacqueline Abad, 53, from Texas, was a passenger aboard MSC Cruises ship MSC Meraviglia.
Jacqueline died during a two-vehicle accident in Belize. The gray Dodge passenger van which was carrying their group crashed on a roadway to Belmopan City, the Belize Police Department said.
MSC Cruises said in a statement, “Unfortunately, one person passed away, while five other MSC Cruises passengers with non-life-threatening injuries were taken to hospital for medical care. Regrettably, also a number of passengers from another cruise line, the driver of the bus and passengers from the other vehicle sustained serious to fatal injuries. We are in close contact with the authorities, as well as the relevant embassy and consular services, and our first priority now is to ensure the swift repatriation of the deceased, We are deeply saddened by this incident and offer our sincerest condolences to the families and those affected.”
The excursion bus driver, Errol Anthony Belisle, 67, was driving 13 passengers back to the cruise ship in a gray Dodge Ram 3500 van on Wednesday when a smaller red Chevrolet Trax car struck the van head-on. The red Chevrolet Trax was attempting to pass a car when it pulled out in front of the van full of tourists, police added.
All three people, who are believed to be residents of Belize, who were riding in the Chevrolet died on impact. With seven total fatalities, local media call this “one of the worst vehicle collisions in Belize’s history.”
MSC Cruises also confirmed that six of their passengers aboard one of their ships were injured in an incident.
