Time of Death 8:00-5:00
On the morning of Monday February 3, 2014, Dante Curtis, 4, from Brooklyn, New York was in the swimming pool aboard Norwegian Cruise Lines' Norwegian Breakaway with his 6-year-old brother, when both boys went under the water in what was reported as "the adult" swimming pool.
Staff aboard Norwegian Breakaway tried to revive both boys, but Dante Curtis couldn't be saved. His brother was medically evacuated to a hospital in North Carolina, reported to be in serious condition.
A teen who posted on Facebook about the incident said that she was their sister, with photos of Dante Curtis posted along with her comments related to her tragic loss. It appeared from the comments she had not been on the cruise with the family.
The tragedy took place on the second day of the cruise, which began in New York City on Sunday February 2, 2014. The cruise ship was due to call at Ft. Lauderdale on Tuesday, before sailing onto Great Stirrup Cay and Nassau in the Bahamas, ending with two days at sea on the return part of the voyage.
Norwegian Breakaway leaves New York City every Sunday for the week long cruise.
